Prices on the We Do Mobility website are displayed without Value Added Tax (VAT) because certain mobility products, such as wheelchairs, scooters, and other equipment for disabled individuals, can be sold VAT-free to eligible customers.

VAT-free purchases

If you're eligible for VAT exemption, you won’t have to pay VAT on qualifying mobility goods under the VAT relief scheme. We Do Mobility will simply charge the VAT-free price, so you won’t need to pay VAT upfront and then reclaim it from the government.

Who is Eligible for VAT exemption?

You may qualify to buy mobility products VAT-free if you are chronically ill or disabled, and the products are for your personal, non-business use.

According to HMRC, 'chronically sick or disabled' means:

-
You have a long-term physical or mental impairment that significantly affects your ability to carry out everyday activities.
-
You have a condition recognized as a chronic illness by the medical profession, such as diabetes.
-
You have a terminal illness.
Temporary conditions, like a broken leg, do not qualify for VAT exemption.

VAT exemption is not based on age. However, if you are over 60 and have a chronic illness or disability, as described above, you may still qualify for VAT relief. Simply being over 60 does not automatically grant you VAT exemption.

Please note that people over the age of 60 may qualify for a reduced VAT rate (5%) on certain home aids, including grab rails, ramps, stair lifts, bath lifts, built-in shower seats, and walk-in baths.

How to purchase VAT-free

VAT exemption is applied through self-declaration. You simply need to fill out and sign a form confirming that you meet the criteria for being ‘chronically sick or disabled.’ A medical assessment is not required.

Declaration forms are available at We Do Mobility showrooms and can be completed at the time of purchase. If you're unable to sign, a parent, guardian, doctor, or carer can sign on your behalf. Faxed and online declarations are also accepted.
